This is Professor Cinnamon's laboratory. Here you can heal yourself, gain information about playable characters and resurrect any dead people. Oh yeah, the actual game is in Japanese, but this ROM was patched to run in English. Cool, huh?
The little penguin (it seems like a blue blotch in this picture) will send the heroes to whatever of the six worlds they choose!
Here's the entrance to the Castlevania level. Zombies and blobs come from both sides, so watch out. Note the cool two player mode.
Somehow, red men hanging from ceilings aren't as terrifying as spiders hanging from ceilings. Oh well.
At this point, I just reloaded an old save game to get all the characters and run through the levels. Here's Moai-kun bashing things in the lower hallways of the Castlevania level.
This is Goemon's territory here. I particularly like the cool bamboo background, but the generic kung fu bad guys remind me of some stupid characters from that old arcade title Karate Champ. Remember that dumb game?
Advance further in Goemon's level and you'll find the "town" area, which has some gambling games. Watch those jumping demon guys (I heard they're called tengu).
This is one of those traditional Japanese-style castles. You're pretty much at the end of Goemon's level here.
The Goonies level begins with that ship near the end of the movie. I loved that movie. When I was a kid I wished that I could find a wrecked pirate ship like that full of treasure and skeletons and stuff...what? Oh, back to Konami World (BTW, that maliciousy miscolored character is Fuu from Getsufuu Maden.)
The rest of the level underneath the ship is a network of caves. Since when did squids walk on land? And just what the HELL are those tentacle statue things?
Kong's level takes place on a construction site, but why are there aliens and robots here? I guess Konami took a lot of liberties when they made the original game, as I don't remember anything close to that in the old movies.
The way top of the construction site is under attack by mine-dropping UFOs! It's actually important to go up here in order to get Kong's special weapon.
The Moai's level opens up outside a set of ancient ruins on Easter Island (I couldn't resist the picture of the moai statue wearing that scottish hat!)
Once you step inside the ruins of the Moai's level, you have to use Kong's special power to break open the walls. You better have lots of missiles. And that nasty demon to the right of Kong? He's a real pain in the arse, attacking relentlessly with flames and such.
